The Society of Road Safety Professionals was established to assist fleet managers to share the knowledge base on fleet safety and industry best practice. Fleet management had become increasingly complex due to the financial, technical, legal, and political nature of the business.

Todays fleet managers operate with increased focus on vehicle safety, quality standards, operating cost, contract hire, leasing, direct purchase, and taxation, combine this with a reduction in layers of management and increased levels of delegation in most organisations.
